Preppers Survival Bible

Welcome All Ye Who Dare Enter Here!

I hope you’ll find this site informative and educational … as well as entertaining! Why have I set up this site? Basically to explore in depth the topic of Survivalism.

How Would you Cope Without Electricity or Fossil Fuels?

In the developed world we’ve become reliant dependent on fossil fuels (for heating and cooking, electricity production and rapid transport.

Your modern comfortable lifestyle is extremely dependent on electricity, natural gas (in urban areas) and clean water piped to your home.

But have you actually sat down and REALLY thought about how your home would function if your electricity supply suddenly stopped working for an extended period of time … perhaps even indefinitely!

I bet most modern homes wouldn’t be able to function at all! No heating or air conditioning, no hot water (and probably no water at all since water is most likely pumped to your home.) No lights at the flick of a switch. How would you and your family cope if you suddenly found yourself with no electricity?

Losing the electricity supply to your home would also mean that you couldn’t use your all your electrical gadgets, use the internet, or even watch TV.

You and your family would be in a worse situation than our forefathers were in 100-150 years ago. Around 100-120 years ago the electrical grid was in it’s infancy and only available in a handful of places.

We’ve now become so dependent on having electricity in our homes, we’d soon be in great difficulty if that electricity supply were cut off for extended periods of time. If you can learn to live without needing electricity from the grid, you’d be in a better position than the majority who are totally unprepared for such an eventuality.

What I’m going to explore on the site is how you can gain the skills and knowledge to live survive without needing to be dependent on your utilities and fossil fuel supplies.

What is Survivalism?

Survivalism conjures up different ideas in all of us. I’d like to ask you, “What does Survivalism mean to you?” … Are you totally new to the subject, or do you already have some experience in some aspect of Survivalism?

Here are a list of skills and knowledge which can fall under the umbrella of Survivalism.

  • You may have learned some wilderness and other survival skills in the military, or elsewhere.
  • You might have had some experience in being self-reliant.
  • You may go hunting and fishing.
  • You might forage for wild foods.
  • You may have experience in preserving and and canning foods for long term storage.
  • You may be learning about using plants for healing.
  • You may know how to live off the land.
  • You might even be growing your own food or keeping bees.
  • You might be living on a homestead rearing a variety of animals.
  • You may have learned how to spin yarn, weave and knit.
  • You may know how to make clothes.
  • You may have DIY and repair skills.
  • You may have some experience is self defence.
  • You might have experience in making things.
  • Perhaps you’ve already chosen to live off-grid!
  • Maybe you’ve been stranded somewhere abroad for a period of time – by a storm, natural disaster or other event.

Whatever of these experiences you may have, to me they all come under the umbrella of Survivalism.

So What is Survivalism?

Survivalism, to me, is about learning how I can live in my local environment – in as much comfort as possible – utilizing the resources around me. This situation could easily arise in the aftermath of a devastating storm, a natural disaster, social unrest or any other unforeseen event interrupts any or all of your utility services.

Survivalism is a very broad topic covering a wide range of skills. It’s very unlikely the no one person has mastered them all. It’s a lot more than just learning a few wilderness survival skills. It’s essentially learning how to live like our Forefathers did only 150 years ago.

Maybe you’ve already had the unfortunate experience of coping in the aftermath of a devastating storm, fire or flood and have already some experience of living without electricity on tap. If so, you’ll already know how badly your lifestyle can be affected.

If you’ve ever watched any documentaries on indigenous peoples who live off the land, you’ll notice that they’ve learned to live and thrive utilizing the resources in their surrounding environment. To me, learning to live using the resources around you is the essence of Survivalism. It’s how our Forefathers lived 100-150 years ago.

Learning Survivalism Skills

When you want to learn about different aspects of Survivalism, it would be wise to take into consideration:

  • What skills you may already have.
  • What new skills would help you survive in the aftermath of an unforeseen event in your local environment.
  • What skills our forefathers had and what tools the utilized 100-150 years ago – i.e. just learn to do what our forefathers did.

Make a list of what your priorities are and plan your learning accordingly. Sometimes you might only need some ideas on doing things by improvising with what you have available.

And don’t forget. If you learn any new skills, you need to practice them to become proficient. In the immortal words of Aristotle (384–322 B.C.):
